EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL TWO (2) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST
AND
WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.
The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled and skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of such equipment as pumps, electric motors, blowers, humidifiers, variable speed drives, compressors, electronic/electrical controls, etc. For the current vacancies in the Water Department, the employees will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment in the Water Treatment Plant.
Performs preventative maintenance duties include the repacking of the pumps, rebuilding of chlorine regulators, checking valves and maintaining pit levels. The employee will be responsible for the inspection of the equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition. These duties include the maintenance and changing of the chlorine in the regulators, checking for leaks in the pumps, inspection and removal of debris from the waste pits, servicing pumps, and greasing valves.
The employee will be required to drive to various locations throughout Jefferson Parish to perform job tasks. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or her designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Current, permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus experience in a class assigned to assist a Pump Equipment Mechanic in the performance of the above duties;
and
certification in writing by the appointing authority of demonstrated capability of journeyman-level work.
OR
Six months of verifiable, satisfactory, full-time, paid, journeyman-level experience in the installation, maintenance,and repair of various types of pumps
and electric motors; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
PREFERRED
:
Possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination will consist of a written test, weighted 100%. It is designed to measure knowledge of and ability to perform maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and related equipment. Applicants should supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous experience including a detailed description of the work, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment.
The Person nel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
