Food Service Worker- Part-Time

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is a cabinet level state agency dedicated to serving Veterans and their families by assisting them in securing state and federal benefits. MDVA has two major divisions each headed by a Deputy Commissioner who reports to the MDVA Commissioner.

The Veteran’s Healthcare Division operates five (5) Veterans Homes located throughout the State and is responsible to provide quality care services for Veterans and qualified spouses. The Homes offer a wide continuum of care, including domiciliary, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, dementia/Alzheimer, and an Adult Day Care program. Each Home is managed by a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

The MDVA operates on a biennial budget cycle which consists of State general funds, Federal Funds, miscellaneous revenues and donations. The Healthcare Division’s biennial budget is $193 million; it employs about 1300 staff working throughout the State.

This position is located at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.

This is a permanent, part-time-time position anticipated to work approximately 20 hours per week,
with a rotating schedule between the hours of 5:00 am and 6:30 pm with varied
days of the week, including weekends and holidays.

To serve prepared foods to residents, personnel and guests of the Minnesota Veterans Home – Hastings. To
prepare salads, nourishments, and carry out lunches; to set-up for special
functions; to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary work
environment.

Minimum

Qualifications:

Knowledge
of:

• Materials and methods used in
  preparing food
• Care and use of cooking utensils
  and equipment.
• Food values and
  nutrition
• Perform simple cooking on large
  scale
• Plan and prepare small meals on
  a household scale
• Perform simple cleaning and food
  service tasks
• Follow oral and written
  instructions

Preferred

Qualifications:

• Experience prepping, plating,
  and serving food
• Knowledge of basic sanitation
  standards
• Experience working with
  vulnerable adults and maintaining confidentiality

Physical
Requirements

Perform a variety of movements
throughout the day such as walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting,
stooping, carrying, reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling

This position requires
successful completion of the following:

• A Minnesota Department of Human
  Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this
  position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check
• A Tuberculosis (Mantoux)
  screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment
• Employment reference checks will
  be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation
  related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former
  employer(s)
