The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA is responsible for:
- Assisting with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and daily living activities
- Recording vital signs and providing psychosocial support
- Assisting with transfers, repositioning, and walking using proper transfer techniques and equipment
- Providing range‑of‑motion and passive exercises
- Preparing food, serving meals, and ensuring a positive dining experience
- Documenting resident interactions, care outcomes, and changes in condition to the charge nurse
- Collecting non‑invasive body fluid specimens and recording vital signs
- Maintaining housekeeping and laundry services for residents’ living areas
- Assisting with wellness and recreational programs and encouraging resident participation
- Participating in departmental and organizational committees as needed
- High school diploma or GED (preferred but not required)
- Minimum age 16
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or enrolled in a program and in the process of obtaining certification within four months of start date
- Completion of yearly competency testing and maintenance of 12 hours of continuing education credits annually
- Required department‑specific certifications maintained
- Certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry (where applicable)
- May be required to meet the Sanford Category II Driver criteria, including a valid driver’s license and medical qualification for driving functions, as per Sanford Driving Policy
