Overview
Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils are looking to appoint a Landscape Architect to join our well‑established, multi‑disciplinary Development Management Team, playing a key role in shaping major schemes, urban extensions and sensitive development across both urban and rural settings.

With the Greater Norwich Local Plan now adopted, we are moving decisively into delivery – and landscape quality, place‑making and environmental stewardship are central to that ambition.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced landscape professional who wants to influence outcomes, work on genuinely strategic sites, and help create attractive, resilient places for communities now and in the future.
Scope of WorkWorking across two council areas surrounding the city of Norwich, the role offers exposure to a wide and varied portfolio, including:
- Large‑scale residential developments and strategic urban extensions
- Major employment sites and enterprise areas
- Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), including renewable energy and power distribution schemes
- Local Development Orders and innovative placemaking initiatives
- Development proposals affecting valued landscapes, heritage assets and rural communities
You will work alongside planners, urban designers, ecologists, heritage specialists and legal colleagues, ensuring landscape considerations are fully integrated into planning decisions from pre‑application through to determination and delivery.
ResponsibilitiesWork within the Development Management Team to:
- Analyse and contribute to landscape design and planning solutions for all project stages
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed landscape considerations into planning decisions
- Apply professional judgement pragmatically, creatively and proportionately in assessing and resolving complex landscape issues
- Support the delivery of strategic site developments and sensitive rural projects
The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning or Landscape Management
- Significant post‑qualification experience in a relevant role
- Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (or eligible and working towards)
- Sound understanding of development management processes and the planning system
- Ability to apply professional judgement pragmatically, creatively and proportionately
