Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) – Ark Blacklands Primary Academy

We have an exciting opportunity for a fully trained part‑time Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join our great staff team at Ark Blacklands Primary Academy. You will work primarily across year groups from EYFS to Year 3, and sometimes Years 4–6, developing children’s emotional literacy and supporting them to succeed in their learning.

• Support children to understand and regulate their own emotions and respect the feelings of others.
• Implement social‑emotional skill programmes in small groups or one‑to‑one sessions.
• Deliver whole‑class ELSA strategies and run a lunchtime club for children who find lunchtimes difficult.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents, outside agencies, and support specific children on short notice when required.
• Work closely with the Pastoral Lead, Assistant Head for Inclusion, Senior Mental Health Lead, and two professional counsellors from Me and My Mind and Place2

• Maintain accurate, confidential records of involvement.

• ELSA trained or currently working to complete training in 2026.

• High expectations of children and themselves; able to show initiative, work independently and as part of a team, embrace our Academy’s values.
• Able to plan and deliver individual and group support programmes with resources to meet social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Good time‑management and organisational skills; keep confidential, accurate, succinct records.
• Communicate well with children, gaining confidence and trust, approachable and willing to listen.
• Warm personality; stay calm under pressure.
• Emotionally literate, with empathy, discretion and commitment to inclusion.
