School Governor (Hastings) - Volunteer
Governors for Schools is seeking volunteers to serve as school governors in Hastings.
Eligibility• Must be over 18 years old. No specific experience required. Professional experience in HR, finance, law, or project management is valuable. Soft skills such as leadership, communication and problem‑solving are highly valued.
What will you be doing?The governing body is responsible for the strategic management of a school and for making decisions about a wide range of issues. Governors will:
- Ensure accountability.
- Act as a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher.
- Monitor and evaluate the school’s progress.
- Handle budgetary allocation and control.
- Shape plans for school improvement and oversee their implementation.
- Set the school’s aims and values.
- Appoint senior staff, including the Head Teacher.
The governing body is usually divided into committees—finance or pupil achievement—which meet separately from the full governing body. Members will attend both committee and full meetings.
A governing body consists of representatives from the school, parents, the local authority and the local community.
