Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – ASD) – Immediate/ASAP Start About the School
A well-established and inclusive independent prep school in East Sussex is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school prides itself on providing a supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.
Staff work collaboratively to ensure all children receive the support they need to succeed.
About the RoleThis is a long-term/permanent 1:1 support role working with a Y1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The start date is flexible, with the opportunity to begin immediately or before September for the right candidate. You will play a key role in supporting the pupil’s learning, communication, and engagement throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the pupil’s needs
- Support classroom engagement and daily routines
- Implement effective behaviour and communication strategies
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
- Encourage independence and social development
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured environment
- Experience supporting children with ASD – essential
- Understanding of autism-friendly strategies and approaches
- Previous experience working in a school setting
- Calm, patient, and resilient nature
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Experience in 1:1 roles
- Knowledge of SEN strategies and interventions
- A welcoming and supportive team environment
