About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Central regional team as a Social Worker in a permanent, part-time 0.5

FTE position. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively within the team and community partners to deliver high-quality child / adolescent and their whānau services.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality social work services to eligible children, young people and their whānau who are at increased risk of developing ill health due to poor housing. This role will work within the Child Health Team and will provide a healthy housing assessment and intervention programme to eligible pregnant women, children and their whānau.

You will provide advocacy and support to children and their whānau to access appropriate health and social services. You will develop a wide knowledge of services, establishing relationships with the networks of health and social service providers involved with children and young people. Support the delivery of government priorities and service plans.

You may be required to work within other areas of the hospital due to operational demands and you will be required to travel to our other locations within our district where our team are located. Te Whatu Ora does not provide a travel allowance for your journey between home and work.

About the Team/Service/ Location

About you

You're able to demonstrate responsibility for supporting the learning and sharing of knowledge and skills and can provide evidence-based health education and advice to patients and whānau within scope to enable them to make health choices suitable to their needs. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach, you learn quickly, adapt fast. You have excellent time management skills and can plan and implement changes, set priorities and monitor performance.

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work
  • Current registration with New Zealand Social Worker Registration Board and hold Annual Practising Certificate
  • Proven competence and ability in social work practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of social determinants of health and the impact of housing on the health and wellbeing of children & whānau
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Protection, Family Violence
  • Previous experience working in the health sector or school environment
  • Previous experience and established relationships with social services involved with providing housing interventions
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously with excellent organisation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Full, clean New Zealand drivers' licence
  • With the support of Health NZ, you will proactively take care of your own health and safety, to ensure a safe and supportive work environment
