the Unit

Founded in 1905 to solve the emerging famine in Europe, Yara has established a unique position as the industry’s only global crop nutrition company. With our integrated business model and a worldwide presence of around 16,000 employees and operations in over 60 countries.

Following an internal retirement, Yara New Zealand is looking for an experienced horticultural sales agronomist to further grow our business based on good crop nutrition practice in the South Island. This role represents an exciting and challenging business environment. The sales agronomist will be instrumental in taking Yara and our customer base forward in the region now and in the coming years.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Country Manager, the Horticultural Sales Agronomist is responsible for driving Yara’s sales activities across the South Island. Occasional support outside this region may be required. The role partners closely with our distribution network, crop consultants, growers, and other key stakeholders to generate demand for Yara’s crop nutrition solutions. The Sales Agronomist promotes Yara’s solutions through demonstration trials, field days, and grower meetings, and contributes to the development of new products and services.

  • Development and successful sales of the total Yara portfolio in the region based upon an understanding of financial expectations of the sales budget in key defined crops.
  • Application of agronomic, commercial and marketing knowledge and skills towards farmers, distributors and stakeholders within key crop segments.
  • Building relationships with customers and with a strong motivation to pursue new opportunities in a range of crop segments.
  • Providing supporting trials, crop demonstrations and sales promotional activities and transform them into value selling propositions.
  • Managing the responsibilities in accordance with Product Stewardship requirements
Profile
  • Solid farmer and/or agronomic background.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience within agronomic and/or commercial fields.
  • Excellent knowledge of horticultural crops, key farmers, and distribution networks within NZ would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of the agricultural/horticultural business, specifically crop nutrition.
  • Strong commercial mindset, enthusiastic and reliable.
  • Team player, self‑motivated, adaptable with a willingness to learn and committed to the job.
  • Proven planning and organization skills and Microsoft Office, MS Teams
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • Would suit applicants residing in the South Island.
