The Martial Arts Instructor is expected to have a high level of knowledge and formal training in areas such as Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Synchronized Swimming, Dance, Golf, Tennis, and Birthday Parties. The instructor will support and encourage students in learning specific progressive or competitive programs, officiate appropriately for their age and experience, and ensure safety and cleanliness of the program area in adherence to YMCA standards.

Qualifications needed for this role as Kid Zone Team Member:

• Some college education or equivalent
• 3-5 years of specialized sports experience
• Ability to work sensitively with others and maintain a positive coaching style
• Ability to perform activities requiring sustained concentration
• Physical ability to assist participants and develop their skills

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting YMCA sports programs according to standards
• Ensuring adherence to YMCA standards and quality
• Providing a safe environment for learning
• Encouraging and supporting staff and participants
• Reinforcing YMCA values through example and recognition
• Arriving at least 15 minutes early for classes and being reliable
• Ensuring the facility is clean and participants exit safely
• Participating as part of the YMCA team to ensure safety and enjoyment
• Providing excellent service and clear communication of YMCA rules
• Managing participant behavior collaboratively
• Reporting incidents, complaints, or compliments promptly
• Following schedules and lesson plans, understanding sport skills
• Attending staff meetings and trainings
• Performing other duties as assigned
