Contracts Manager

Contracts Manager Hatfield, Hertfordshire | Office-Based with UK Site Travel (AL9) Salary Highly Negotiable Ready to take ownership of major civil engineering projects? I am looking for an experienced Contracts Manager to join a growing civil engineering business and play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across the UK. This is a hands-on position for someone who understands that great project delivery is about more than just programmes and paperwork.

Its about leading people, controlling costs, solving problems, managing risk and keeping clients confident from start to finish. Youll be based from our Hatfield head office, with regular travel to project sites across the UK. The opportunity Youll take responsibility for multiple projects from contract award and mobilisation through to completion and final account, working closely with commercial, estimating and site teams.

Our projects span groundworks, earthworks, basements, enabling works and civil engineering, across residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors. Youll also have the opportunity to work on technically demanding developments, including major data centre and advanced manufacturing projects. What youll be doing Take ownership of the successful delivery of multiple live contracts. Lead and support site teams, subcontractors and suppliers. Drive projects to meet programme, budget, quality and safety requirements.

Identify potential delays and project risks early, taking action before they become problems. Work closely with the commercial team on cost control, valuations, forecasting and margin protection. Manage subcontractor packages from procurement through to final account. Maintain strong relationships with clients, designers and principal contractors. Lead progress meetings and provide clear updates on programme, cost, quality and risk. Ensure projects comply with CDM, UK health & safety legislation and company standards.

Provide buildability and delivery input to estimating and pre-construction teams. Share lessons learned and help improve how projects are delivered. Mentor and develop Site Managers and junior members of the project team. What were looking for Youll have a proven background in civil engineering, groundworks or construction, ideally as a Contracts Manager, Senior Site Manager or in a similar senior delivery role.

You should be comfortable managing several projects and teams at the same time and have a track record of delivering work across sectors such as residential, commercial or infrastructure. Experience in RC frame, basement, data centre or industrial projects would be advantageous. Youll also bring:
Strong knowledge of civil engineering and groundworks methodologies. A good understanding of construction sequencing and programming.

Experience with contracts such as JCT and/or NEC. Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs and margins. Good knowledge of CDM and UK construction health & safety requirements. Excellent leadership and people-management skills. The confidence to deal directly with clients and senior stakeholders. A practical, proactive approach to solving problems. Excellent organisation and communication skills. SMSTS certification. CSCS Black Manager card.

Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline or equivalent industry experience. Full UK driving licence. CIOB, ICE or similar professional membership is desirable but not essential.
