  • Salary: £25,518 – £29,207 per annum
  • Location:

    Hatfield, Hertfordshire

About the Role

As a Housing Support Worker, you will support people with a history of drug and/or alcohol issues, who are abstinent and living in supported housing projects.

You will work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to provide a range of interventions to support recovery and help people achieve independent living in the community.

You will also work alongside colleagues who will provide psychological therapies to support residents to improve their wellbeing.

You will ensure residents are safe and engaged in positive and meaningful activities in the community that will support their recovery.

About You

This is an entry‑level role, and we understand that not all candidates will have direct work experience in a similar position. We provide training to all of our Housing Support Workers, enabling them to deliver the role confidently and in a holistic, person‑centred way. Whilst a passion for working with people affected by addiction is crucial, candidates may also have experience of working with people with complex needs including challenging or negative behaviour, substance misuse and/or criminal offending backgrounds and supporting them to make changes to their lives.

You may also have:

  • Experience or an understanding of supporting people to develop their personal strengths and sustain their tenancy within a ‘supported housing’ environment.
  • Specialist harm reduction experience.
  • Experience of developing partnerships and working collaboratively with other organisations.
  • A coaching/ counselling/ Health and Social Care qualification.
  • An understanding of the harmful effects associated with drug and alcohol misuse and offending in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle.
How to Apply

To apply for this role, click the ‘apply now’ button and complete our online application form.

Our online application form consists of a set of “getting to know you” questions that are specific to each role. For most of our positions, we also ask that you upload a CV. Download the job description for a full list of duties along with a person specification detailing essential and desirable skills.

See below for our step‑by‑step guide to completing your application, and some useful tips to help you understand what we look for.

Application Steps
  • Copy and save the URL at the bottom of the form so that you can revisit your application at a later date.
  • Complete your personal details in order for us to contact you about your application.
  • Answer our ‘about you’ questions to help us understand your values, skills and experience.
  • Upload your CV (not all roles require a CV; this will not be visible if it is not required).

    • Make sure your email address and phone number are correct.
    • Write your responses in your own words, as if speaking to the person who might hire you.
    • Check for spelling errors or omissions before sending.
    • Ensure your CV is in a format we can read (pdf, doc, etc.).
    • After submitting, wait for the “application successful” message and email confirmation.
