This position is for a Librarian with an educational institution with opportunity in Perkinston.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Collection Development- Orders print and non-print materials based on curriculum needs, accreditation standards, and institutional initiatives.
- Evaluates the collection for additions and deletions based on use, physical condition, and currency.
- Utilizes professional review tools to select new materials and resources.
- Differentiates strengths and weaknesses of online, hybrid, and in-person learning and events to create appropriate programs for each.
- Teaches students to use the Library website, catalog, databases, and other web resources.
- Supports instructors in all teaching formats as needed.
- Creates tutorials and Lib Guides to support coursework.
- Conducts student workshops and employee development sessions on library resources and related topics.
- Staffs and supervises the combined Circulation and Reference desk.
- Follows established circulation policies and procedures.
- Uses the library management system (Atrium/SIRSI) proficiently to run reports and monitor requests.
- Answers ready reference and in-depth reference questions in person, via chat, and email.
- Tracks reference interactions and usage statistics.
- Oversees circulation operations, including managing library materials and reserves, processing overdue notices, and maintaining patron records and holds.
- Maintains the reserve collection in coordination with faculty members.
- Handles all interlibrary loan transactions, including preparing, shipping, receiving, and tracking materials.
- Maintains the library management system and related technology by running reports, completing backups, and coordinating system upgrades.
- Recommends technology or software purchases to enhance access and efficiency.
- Provides statistical information and reports to support library operations and institutional effectiveness.
- Hires, trains, and schedules student workers.
- Submits time sheets and documentation.
- Assigns projects and monitors performance.
- Supervises evening and weekend library operations as assigned (typically two nights per week and one Sunday per month).
- Opens and closes the Library as needed based on staffing and scheduling.
- Retrieves and processes library mail; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Obtains at least 15 hours of professional development annually through workshops, conferences, or webinars.
- Builds partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance library services and visibility.
- Discovers and applies professional tools and resources to evaluate and improve programs.
- Manages time and projects effectively at the individual, departmental, and institutional levels.
- Other Duties As Assigned May Include
Website updates and revisions.
Annual inventory and data collection.
Database statistics and reporting.
Assisting with student registration and outreach initiatives.
Journal and serial selection, weeding, and collection maintenance.
Support for reserves or computer systems.
- Minimum of a Master's Degree in Library Science or Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA and regionally accredited Institution of higher learning.
- Experience in a community college or university library.
- Experience performing research using article databases and other print and online tools.
- Excellent technology and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience building partnerships with internal and external partners to improve and expand relevant Library services and resources.
- Experience in providing library support and instruction for courses in a Learning Management System, such as Canvas.
- Demonstrable experience in creating tutorials, guides, and other learning objects for a variety of learning modalities using online, hybrid, and in-person resources.
