The position is based on the Hattiesburg campus. Candidates may be required to teach at the Gulf Park campus (Long Beach, MS) and/or teach online/hybrid courses using various technology platforms.

Accounting ProgramThe School of Accountancy is AACSB‑accredited and offers undergraduate and master’s degrees with an extensive alumni network in local, state, and federal service. It serves accounting majors on both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses and in our online program. The Hattiesburg area has an estimated population of approximately 150,000 and is one of the fastest growing regions in the State of Mississippi.
Job SummaryThe University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full‑time, nine‑month non‑tenure‑track Instructor of Accounting position to begin in August 2026. The specific instructional needs are in financial accounting and managerial/cost accounting.
PrimaryJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate accounting courses in financial accounting and managerial accounting with a standard teaching load of 24 credit hours per year (4/4 load). Classes may be on‑campus, online, or hybrid. Graduate courses may be assigned as needed.
- Maintain qualification as a Scholarly Academic or Instructional Practitioner.
- Contribute to the maintenance of AACSB accreditation by participating in required activities.
• Master’s degree in accounting or a related business field with at least 18 graduate‑level credit hours in accounting.
• Minimum of five years of professional accounting experience and currently licensed as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant.
• For candidates with prior higher‑education employment, evidence of excellence in collegiate teaching and institutional/professional service.
- Deliver high‑quality instruction in face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
- Commitment to student learning and curriculum development.
- Maintain currency in the accounting discipline and integrate that knowledge into the classroom.
- Engage collaboratively in a faculty team‑oriented environment, serving the school, college, university, and profession.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and service‑orientated contributions.
- Participate in curriculum maintenance and assessment of learning.
- Show passion for teaching, student engagement, and mentoring.
- Engage with the professional accounting and business community.
- Experience in public or corporate accounting.
- Experience teaching face‑to‑face, hybrid, flipped, or online university‑level classes.
- Experience with assurance of learning.
