Purpose: Under the oversight of the Senior Minister, Administrator, and Session, the Director of Student Ministry (DSM) will oversee, develop, and implement the church's overall ministry to students in junior high and high school. His primary purpose is to shepherd the students of our congregation, and those connected to them, by engaging them with the Gospel in the context of large groups, small groups, and one-to-ones.

By God's blessing, his goal is to see that these students love Christ and his church and are equipped to serve him.

Weekly Duties

Prepare lessons for Sunday School & Wednesday night. These lessons may take the form of Biblical expositional series, book studies, topical studies, etc.

Pursue and cultivate discipleship relationships with students in one-on-one & small group settings. Utilize social media, email, text, call, and traditional mail to disciple the youth.

Attend all Lord’s Day and Wednesday services unless providentially hindered or excused.

Meet weekly, plan, and pray with youth staff. Cultivate a shared vision of youth ministry. At times, this youth ministry team may include a female youth worker and additional interns.

Communicate clearly and consistently with parents about youth ministry objectives, news, and events. Seek to cultivate a core of parental volunteers and include those volunteers in the ministry.

Oversee youth budget and operating expenses.

Monthly Duties

Host monthly fellowship activities for both the junior and senior high students respectively. Utilize parent volunteers in these offerings.

Pursue our students at their schools by attending sporting events, especially those in which our students are participating. Attend lunches with students when possible.

Coordinate with the PCS chaplain to exhort during chapel services as often as possible.

Open your home to students when possible and practice hospitality.

When necessary, work with the pastoral staff to address particular shepherding needs.

Attend monthly session meetings.

Annual Duties

Plan and lead at least one annual mission trip. In time, it may be wise to offer separate junior or senior high trips or one domestic and one foreign trip.

Plan and lead Timbercreek retreat, assist with Against the Flow retreat, as well as other retreats.

Attend presbytery meetings as appropriate.

Shadow elders in their shepherding roles.

As opportunities arise, attend various conferences for personal and professional development.

In partnership with the session and the senior minister, assist with other pastoral duties as needed to care for the congregation.

Additional Info

The Session is motivated to offer a highly competitive package based on experience and references. We also offer tuition assistance for seminary students in addition to our salary package. The start date is flexible. We have a former church planter and missionary temporarily filling this position, who will remain on staff and will offer mentoring and oversight of the ministry. We run about 40-50 students regularly with room to grow.

We have a male intern and a female youth ministry assistant already on staff.
