Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Nutrition Services Coordinator, serves as a member of the healthcare and Nutrition Support Team providing medical nutrition therapy.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates ability to interpret appropriate information to assess, plan, direct, and implement nutrition intervention.
- Provides knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment necessary to deliver care reflective of patient status and age‑specific needs. Interprets and documents indirect calorimetry measurement results.
- Educates patients and caregivers regarding home enteral and parenteral nutrition administration and management as needed.
- Completes accurate and timely documentation of assessment and care plans in EMR.
- Collaborates with other healthcare team members and participates in multidisciplinary rounds to coordinate hospital therapy and post‑discharge care plans.
- Provides nutrition therapy and education to promote a healthier lifestyle.
- Serves as preceptor and co‑signer of clinical notes for dietetic interns, nutrition techs, and new employees as needed.
- Maintains professionalism by providing all services in accordance with clinical standards.
- Provides the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to adhere to all FGH policies and procedures.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of all information pertaining to patients.
- Display a positive and professional image and attitude with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Demonstrate ongoing responsibility for self‑education.
- Demonstrate effective critical thinking skills and judgment capabilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively plan, direct, and implement appropriate nutrition intervention.
- Demonstrate the ability to counsel patients on nutrition issues.
- Visit patients as directed by F&N management or when needed by diet office to improve patient satisfaction scores.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of nutrition care provided and make changes when needed.
- Demonstrate effective writing and speaking skills.
- Demonstrate active listening skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to complete consults/assignments by the deadline.
- Demonstrate willingness to assist in other areas as needed.
- Successfully pass monthly chart audits.
- Display a positive attitude regarding constructive criticism.
Education / Skills
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition, dietetics, or food service management to meet educational requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to successfully complete the Dietitian/National Registration Examination required. Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience
Previous work experience in an acute healthcare facility as a clinical dietitian preferred. Experience may be deferred for those meeting the educational qualifications.
Certification / Licensure - DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed with Mississippi State Board of Health.
- Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Demonstrate expertise in clinical dietetic practice and the role of nutrition in health maintenance. Knowledge and application of medical terminology, pharmacology, and health systems. Observes standards of practice with awareness of professional liability. Communicate effectively with physicians, administration, other healthcare personnel, patients, and other clients while maintaining required confidentiality. Responsive and takes initiative with problem resolution. Ability to operate a computer, calculator, and copy machine.
Ability to calculate therapeutic diets. Competency in coordinating nutritional care activities to assigned patient care areas.
