Job Summary

Conducts diagnostic assessments as the lead interventionist, provides therapy for a minimum 10 infant, toddler, and preschool children with communication and developmental disorders, in a center classroom, home, or community based setting as part of a transdisciplinary team. Provides supervision to teacher assistants and university students on a regular basis. Additionally, the Speech Language Pathologist maintains appropriate documentation and performs Part C and Part B assessments and eligibility determinations, report write-ups, and IFSP and IEP goal and objective writing with the therapy team.

This position is for The Children's Center for Communication and Development.

Primary

Job Duties
  • Provides intervention for a minimum of 10 children with moderate-severe communication and developmental disabilities in the center, home, and community based settings while supervising university students and teacher assistants.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments, participates in early intervention team, and completes reports as the lead interventionist. Assists with Child Find Activities.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for Mississippi Department of Education and Mississippi Department of Health eligibility rulings for students with disabilities in need of intervention. Develops Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students on her/his case load and supports staff in doing so for all children enrolled.
  • Determines need for Extended School Year (ESY) services and assists with ESY planning and implementation in the summer.
  • Conducts conferences and workshops with colleagues, university students and parents/guardians of students served.
  • Participates in fundraising and awareness activities to bolster support for The Center community and state-wide.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Science Disorders from an accredited college or university;
Four years minimum experience in speech-language therapy;
Must hold State certification from the Mississippi Department of Education. Must hold Certificate of Clinical Competence or be eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year. Must hold Mississippi State Board of Health License.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions appropriately from groups of managers, staff, families, and the general public.
  • Ability to travel for providing treatment in a child’s natural environment (i.e. home or daycares).
Preferred Qualifications

Pediatric, transdisciplinary (i.e., previously worked closely with pediatric therapists from other disciplines as part of a clinical team).

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
