Position: Infrastructure Technician / AS1259P

This position is for an Infrastructure Technician with a public university located in Gulfport, MS. The incumbent reports to the Director of Network & Technology Infrastructure and is responsible for the maintenance and development of the College’s network infrastructure components, including security cameras, network endpoints, the camera management system on each campus, and the Cable Television Distribution network on each campus.

The position will be housed at the Harrison County Campus, but substantial travel may be required throughout the district as needed.

Job Duties
  • Maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair network hardware and interfaces for students and employees.
  • Document and update physical and logical camera layouts and device configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve general network connectivity issues.
  • Offer timely and effective solutions while minimizing downtime for users.
  • Utilize network management and monitoring tools.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for camera and access management systems.
  • Act as liaison between police chiefs and the Technology and Research division as issues arise.
  • Quarterly cleaning and inspection of each camera on the campuses; prepare and deliver inspection reports.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to police chiefs and Director, Network and Infrastructure Services.
  • Mantain hardware and software controlling security cameras; ensure video storage devices meet minimum days of recordings.
  • Advise on impending necessary upgrades and improvements (to police chiefs and director).
  • Handle Ethernet and fiber optic cabling related to camera/CATV infrastructure.
  • Assistance with configuration deployments and troubleshooting for cameras.
  • Ensure daily recording saves.
  • Maintain user permissions to Camera Management Software.
  • Maintain Cable Television Distribution facilities at each campus.
  • Monitor on a weekly basis that each channel is functioning properly.
  • Continuous professional development in security camera and cable television distribution technologies.
  • Primary point of contact for building door access installations, configurations, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain door access infrastructure hardware and administrative software.
  • Primary point of contact for card access credential troubleshooting.
  • Technology and Research liaison for cabling vendors for add/move/change requests for network infrastructure.
  • Utilize college ticketing software to respond to requests and track work completed.
  • Apply systems analysis techniques to determine hardware/software/system functional specifications.
  • Design, develop, document, test or modify computer systems or programs per user/system design specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Case Management
  • Manage and prioritize technical support tickets submitted via an online Service Now ticketing system.
  • Triage and assign cases in a timely manner to the appropriate technical team.
  • Accurately log, update, and close support cases, ensuring detailed documentation of each issue and resolution.
  • Follow up on open tickets to ensure successful resolution.
Inventory Management
  • Track, monitor, and maintain accurate data in Asset Panda Inventory Management System; ensure all network related inventory assets are accounted for, properly documented, and easily retrievable.
Employee Training & Documentation
  • Develop and conduct a variety of training sessions for college employees on technology usage and best practices.
  • Maintain quality technical documentation and resources to support users and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Continuously improve technical knowledge through training, workshops, and self-study.
Communication
  • Communicate effectively with users to ensure that they are informed of the status of their requests and that their technical issues are resolved to satisfaction.
  • Work closely with other technical teams within the Division of Technology & Research to escape complex issues and share knowledge of common problems and solutions.
General
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines and manage tickets in a high‑pressure environment.
