Our vibrant Education Team plays a vital role in connecting people with animals, nature and learning, delivering engaging educational experiences to over 10,000 school children annually. As a BTEC Animal Care Tutor, you'll help shape the future workforce of the animal care sector, delivering inspiring, hands‑on learning in a truly exceptional setting.
The Role:- Deliver inspiring, interactive, and educational sessions for students and visiting groups.
- Promote meaningful engagement with animals, animal welfare, and the natural environment.
- Act as a professional ambassador for Staunton Farm, ensuring a welcoming and high‑quality experience for all visitors.
- Support teachers and group leaders to maximise learning outcomes during visits.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the BTEC Animal Care specification.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and resources that integrate theoretical knowledge with hands‑on animal care.
- Deliver teaching across classroom and practical farm environments, making effective use of facilities and animals.
- Assess learner work in accordance with BTEC standards, including coursework, assignments, and practical assessments.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner development and achievement.
Operational Management
- Organise and coordinate teaching sessions and practical activities effectively.
- Maintain teaching resources and ensure readiness for delivery.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to align education programmes with farm operations.
- Ensure efficient day‑to‑day running of learning activities in line with operational requirements.
- Ensure safe working practices in all teaching and practical activities.
- Carry out risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
- Ensure safe handling of animals, equipment, and tools.
- Comply fully with health and safety legislation, safeguarding, and animal welfare standards.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model.
- Remain vigilant to signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or welfare concerns.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Ensure all learning activities are risk assessed with safeguarding considerations embedded.
- Support vulnerable learners, including those with additional needs or mental health challenges.
- Promote personal safety, wellbeing, and respectful behaviour.
- Accurately record and report safeguarding concerns in line with procedures.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external agencies where required.
- Undertake regular safeguarding training and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge.
- Understand and implement all corporate policies relevant to the role.
- Promote health and safety, equality, diversity, and sustainability objectives.
