Job Description Role overviewThe Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for producing safe, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs for water and wastewater treatment projects. This includes LV power distribution, MCCs, ICA interfaces, standby generation, cabling, lighting, and integration with process and MEICA systems. The role supports feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities- Electrical System Design
- Develop electrical engineering designs for water and wastewater assets including LV power distribution systems, Variable speed drives (VSDs), Pumping systems, Chemical dosing and treatment process equipment, Earthing and bonding systems, Cable calculations, routing, and containment, Lighting, small power, and emergency systems, Standby generators and UPS systems (where applicable), Load schedules and discrimination studies, Cable sizing calculations, Control philosophies, Electrical layouts and schematics, Equipment specifications and datasheets, Bills of materials.
- Technical Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, including BS EN standards, Water industry design specifications, Wiring regulations (BS 7671), CDM regulations, Functional safety requirements (where applicable). Apply safe‑by‑design principles and participate in HAZOP, HAZCOM, and risk reviews. Conduct design reviews, value engineering, and optimisation. Work closely with civil, mechanical, ICA, and process engineers to ensure integrated MEICA designs. Provide electrical input at all project stages (feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction).
Support the procurement process by preparing technical specifications and evaluating supplier proposals. Provide design support during installation, testing, and commissioning. Engage with subcontractors, OEMs, and supply chain partners.
