Overview
Military and Family Life Counselor - Adults or Children at Magellan Health.
Location:
Havelock, NC. Role supports MCAS Cherry Point with military members and their families or in local schools with high populations of military children. Candidates must be local or willing to become local and licensed at the independent level as a Social Worker (LCSW), Therapist (LMFT), or Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC/LPC).
- Provide non-medical, short-term, walk-around counseling directly to eligible service members and/or family members at assigned locations, including assessment, brief counseling, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up as indicated.
- Deliver training and health and wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and base/installation activities as requested.
- Enter counselor activity data daily to ensure accurate reporting per installation requirements while maintaining client/service member confidentiality.
- Maintain visibility within the brigade/regiment and develop relationships with community resources; partner with the POC to address installation needs and provide MFLC services.
- Respond to critical incidents, surge events, and special requests as directed, with flexible scheduling as needed.
- Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting per DoD protocol; coordinate cases with the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
- Participate in regular supervision, in-services, and quality improvement activities; engage in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a relevant field (e.g., social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, counseling).
- Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, DC, US territory or commonwealth that authorizes independent practice.
- Minimum 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
- Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphones/tablets, video-conferencing).
- Ability to engage with military members or children, respond quickly to emergent situations on a military installation or in a school setting; willingness to travel as needed; comply with site-specific requirements (e.g., immunizations).
- US citizenship required;
English fluent. - Ability to develop trusting relationships and work with diverse populations.
- Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI), Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI fingerprints.
- Vehicle operator’s license required unless waived; may require a military vehicle operator’s permit for TDY locations if needed.
