About the Position

The Director of Instructional Design and Technology Services (IDTS) is a strategic, visible leader who brings expertise in pedagogy, instructional design, and technology to support and strengthen teaching and learning across the College. The Director partners with faculty and staff to champion educational technologies and promote a reflective, innovative, and evidence‑informed teaching culture. This work sits at the intersection of faculty development, instructional design, student support, and academic technology, and requires a collaborative approach to ensure cohesive and complementary services.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this role leads a team of five staff members who together support the design, implementation, and continual improvement of tools and services essential to teaching and learning. This includes the College’s LMS, lecture capture, grading tools, multimedia and classroom technologies, audiovisual services, and emerging opportunities such as generative AI. IDTS is one of six departments that make up the Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS) division at Haverford College.

The Director helps the College navigate the evolving educational landscape by fostering effective, ethical, and forward‑looking practices in digital learning and classroom technology across academic and administrative contexts.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the IDTS team, fostering a collaborative and creative environment. Provide guidance and mentorship to IDTS and the College on emerging trends in AI, instructional design, multimedia content, pedagogical practices, and instructional and classroom technology. Participate in the IITS division leadership team, collaborating with the CIO and with other department heads to advance the work of the division and the College.

  • Champion the adoption of evidence‑based teaching practices and lead/co‑develop faculty development initiatives, including consultations with individual instructors and academic departments, workshops, seminars, resources, and support for the creation and maintenance of communities of practice.   • Cultivate partnerships with the Provost’s Office, academic departments, the Libraries, the Office of Academic Resources, other College stakeholders, and BiCo and Tri Co partners to collaboratively identify needs, and create, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning programs. (15%)
  • Stay current with emerging trends and research in instructional design, AI, accessibility, instructional technology, and high‑impact pedagogy, and share knowledge and insights with faculty and colleagues. (15%)
  • Establish and maintain data‑informed assessment processes to evaluate the impact of instructional technologies, programming, and departmental effectiveness. (5%)
  • Manage the departmental budget and effectively allocate resources. (5%)
