Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Permanent

A leading engineering organisation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team, working as part of a wider UK and global engineering function. The role is primarily hands-on technical work with an element of mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers, and requires a strong grounding in mechanical engineering principles combined with excellent project oversight and communication skills.

What you'll be doing:

Overseeing and delivering mechanical engineering projects from concept through to completion

Monitoring project progress and ensuring successful delivery to time and quality targets

Providing technical guidance and acting as an escalation point for engineering queries

Supporting estimating, bidding, and early project consultation

Conducting quality checks and driving continuous improvement across projects

Mentoring and supporting junior and mid-level engineers, sharing knowledge and best practice

Supporting resource planning and scheduling within the engineering team

Contributing to training, skills development, and team growth

Representing the engineering function in project and leadership forums as required

What you need:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical discipline

Proven experience in a senior or lead mechanical design engineering role

Exposure to engineering or technology-driven project environments

Strong organisational and planning capability with the ability to manage competing priorities

Calm under pressure with a proactive, solutions-focused approach

Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to work cross-functionally and influence constructively
