Instructor/Assistant Professor of Plumbing Technology
Brief Position Overview
Montana State University-Northern (MSUN) invites applications for an academic‑year (10‑month) Instructor/Assistant Professor of Plumbing Technology to begin immediately. Effective teaching is the primary mission of this position and MSU‑Northern. Make a lasting impact on student success and the trade’s industry by teaching Plumbing Technology courses and supervising student plumbing trainees in a two‑year Associate of Applied Science degree program.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Teach plumbing technology courses and supervise student plumbing trainees in the two‑year A.A.S. program.
- Teach approximately 24 semester credit hours per year in basic plumbing theory, hand tool and instrument usage, plumbing distribution, boiler heating and wiring processes.
- Use a variety of distance delivery mediums as needed.
- Create, update, and maintain proper lab facilities.
- Help develop a two‑year apprenticeship experience for traditional and non‑traditional students.
- Develop course material, laboratory experiences, and facilities; establish corporate and labor linkages to ensure graduates are ready to work in the plumbing trade.
- Participate in curriculum development, program growth, assessment, advisory board work, and student recruitment efforts.
- Serve on campus committees, engage in campus activities, and act as an ambassador for the College of Technical Sciences.
- A Journeyman Plumber with a minimum of 4 years of full‑time plumbing experience.
- Experience training apprentices.
- Proven experience with modern plumbing industry tools, practices, and regulations.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated recent industry work experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated strength in interpersonal skills and attributes.
- A master plumber license with experience in apprenticeship training.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and willingness to pursue a Master’s Degree in a related field.
- Experience and willingness to embrace new technologies.
Note:
Master’s degree will be required for tenure.
The Program: MSU‑Northern’s Plumbing Technology program is the only program in the state to offer an Associate of Applied Science in conjunction with the State of Montana Apprenticeship program.
