Guidance Counselor: Social/Educational, School Counselor
Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school which provides girls and young women an exceptional education that inspires them to become leaders for their communities and the world. Under the direction of the Director of Counseling, the Grades 11-12/ College Counselor guides students in their final years of high school through academic planning, postsecondary exploration, college application processes, and career readiness while also providing social-emotional support.
Responsibilities include providing individualized student planning, delivering guidance classes, and conducting workshops for parents. Collaborating closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and behavioral health specialists to address student needs effectively is also an important part of this position.
- Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Education, Psychology or related field (degrees and course credits must be earned from a nationally or internationally accredited college or university)
- One year of school Counseling/College Counseling experience at the high school level – OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for this requirement.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
- Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take direction from supervisors and colleagues.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
- Able to work all required shifts and possible extended hours.
- Ability to implement faith-based curriculum consistent with the Academy’s Catholic mission.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education, Psychology or related field (degrees and course credits must be earned from a nationally or internationally accredited college or university)
- Three years of school counseling experience at the high school level.
- Three years of college counseling or postsecondary advising.
- Demonstrated expertise in student development, counseling methodologies, and best practices in academic, social-emotional, and behavioral guidance.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Maia Learning.
- Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively meet deadlines and communicate sensitively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
- Comprehensive understanding of counseling principles and techniques, enabling the development and implementation of tailored guidance curriculum for students at various developmental stages.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate instructional methods for assigned grade levels.
- Ability to support and motivate students towards achieving their personalized educational goals.
- Skill in differentiating and personalizing instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Proficiency in managing both small and large student groups across different grade levels.
- Effective communication skills with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds in multi-aged environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, multitasking capabilities, and sound judgment.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment, utilizing excellent time and stress management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
- Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid processes.
- Have Empathy, cultural responsiveness, and student-centered approach.
