Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Campus is seeking a K–5 Guidance Counselor (Elementary School) who is deeply committed to serving ʻōiwi Hawaiʻi learners and who brings experience working in Hawaiian-focused or Indigenous-serving school settings. The successful candidate will understand the critical role that counseling plays in helping students develop strong, positive identities as ʻōiwi Hawaiʻi, grounded in ʻike kūpuna, and a sense of belonging, kuleana, and ea.

We are looking for a seasoned, highly qualified school counselor with a demonstrated record of positively impacting students through a comprehensive, multi-tiered system of student support (MTSS). The ideal candidate will bring strong skills in preventative guidance instruction, responsive services, and data-informed interventions that support students’ academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and cultural well‑being. This counselor will collaborate effectively with teachers, school leaders, and ʻohana;

communicate with care and professionalism; and approach their work with humility, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to continuous growth.

Additional Position Information
  • This position is scheduled to start at the beginning of our 26‑27 school year.
  • This position has a 10-month work year.
  • Compensation is determined through a calculation that is based on your highest degree earned and the number of FT years of school counseling experience you possess.
Job Summary

Responsible for advising and counseling students regarding academic, educational & short-term social and emotional problems. Teaches guidance classes to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings. Communicates with parents and consults with administrators, teachers, and others regarding students’ academic and educational matters. Participates on a Student Success Team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.

Teaches group guidance classes, and participates in workshops for parents. Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters, including post‑high school planning as applicable; assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures; provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
  • Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.
  • Consults, facilitates and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations; provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual students’ academic and educational needs and abilities.
  • Participates on Student Success Teams, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and participates in the development of student support plans with particular responsibility for academic supports; communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
