Description This posting is being used to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. The authorized level of these positions is Educational Assistant III. Applications are being accepted down to the Educational Assistant I in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Salary Range

• Educational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month
• Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month
• Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month

• Within a classroom setting, independently performs a variety of academic and non-academic instructional tasks in accordance with established guidelines and available resources.
• Provides paraprofessional support services to students with disabilities and assists teachers, both special education and general education, in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions. May independently provide academic, social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in a school and/or community setting to enable them to function as independently as possible. Adjusts to student needs with flexibility.
• Serves as a paraprofessional assistant in the delivery of counseling support services and activities for identified students. Works as a member of the school support team to provide interventions prescribed by the school support team for the reduction of a student s specific academic, behavioral or social needs.

Basic Education Requirements

Applicants must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND one of the following minimum education requirements as described by the Hawaii DOE guidelines for Educational Assistants:

• 48 semester credits from an accredited institution, with 3 credits in Math and 3 credits in English.
• An Associate in Arts (AA) or Science (AS) degree or higher with at least 48 credits at the baccalaureate level.
• Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment (ETS).

Experience Requirements

Except for substitutions described in this specification, applicants must have the experience described below. See the table for level-specific requirements.

• Educational Assistant I:

• Educational Assistant II:
  General 1 year;
  Specialized 0
• Educational Assistant III:
  General 1 year;
  Specialized 1 year

One year of experience is defined as approximately 180 teacher duty days or about 38 weeks per year. General Experience includes direct interaction with people and the ability to organize materials, maintain records, and describe observations. Specialized Experience involves direct contact with students, familiarity with common academic, social, behavioral, and developmental problems, and use of instructional materials and tasks.

Driver s License, Lift, and Substitutions

• Some positions require a current, valid driver s license.
• Some positions require the ability to lift up to 65 pounds and/or lift and carry up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Salary
:
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes applicable differentials.

Requirements
:
Applicants must meet all requirements as of the application date. Calculation of experience is based on full-time 40-hour weeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Extra hours are not credited.

Temporary Assignment
:
Temporary Assignment experience may be used to meet minimum qualifications with verification attached to the application (examples: TA History Report, supervisor letter, or SF-10 forms).

Payday and Benefits
:
New employees may receive their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods.
