The instrumentation and controls technician is responsible for the calibration, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and installation of site instrumentation, controls, and electrical components within a Combined Cycle power plant.
Essential Responsibilities- Maintain and repair all electrical, instrumentation and control systems on site.
- Perform calibration as required on all control system input and output devices. Example: transmitters, control valves, etc.
- Maintain power distribution equipment including switch gear, motor control centers, power distribution panels, etc.
- Assist in improvement of maintenance procedures and record keeping.
- Maintain Gas Turbine Continuous Emissions Monitoring System.
- Support Operations and Maintenance personnel as required.
- Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Minimum high school diploma graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum 4 years progressively responsible experience in power plant, marine, refinery, or comparable industries.
- Proficient in calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Experience with repair or replacement of process control instrumentation.
- Fundamental knowledge of programmable logic controllers or distributed control systems.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
- Able to use test instruments for electrical testing and troubleshooting.
- Available for call‑outs during the week and weekends.
- Willing to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting and repair from Manufacturers Manuals or other information.
- Able to climb ladders and stairs to access equipment installed within the power plant.
- Able to pass a pre‑hire background check, drug screening, and physical exam.
- Installation, setup, and troubleshooting of networks and network switches.
- Demonstrated knowledge in calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation with record of success outside of school.
- Experience in Maintenance Management System.
- Experience with troubleshooting and repair without established procedures.
- Knowledge of Modbus concept.
- Familiarization with the National Electrical Code.
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electronics Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology.
- Willing to share knowledge and experience with other technicians in the group.
- Proficient in using computers running Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft programs Word, Excel, etc.
- Flexible, adapts well to changes in scope and schedule.
- Thrives on variety, learning, and cooperation.
- Collaborates effectively in a team setting.
- Qualified to operate aerial lift, scissor lift, forklift.
This position is at Kalaeloa Cogen located in Kapolei, Hawaii, a combined cycle power plant comprised of 2 gas turbines and 1 steam turbine.
PayFor U.S. based candidates only, the pay range for this position is $27 – $38 per hour. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
