Position: Test Specialist (Composites)

X is seeking a talented Test Specialist (Composites) to facilitate and execute payload adapter integration and testing across various facilities, managing schedules, assets, and procedures, and physically installing and testing structural, electrical, and propulsion systems to validate reliable satellite deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Process Falcon flight hardware to support safe, rapid, and reliable integration and launch.
  • Develop tools, hardware, and procedures for efficient assembly, integration, and testing of various systems.
  • Design, develop, and operate data acquisition and other electrical systems.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, mission managers, and technicians across cleanroom facilities (both domestically and internationally).
  • Identify high‑risk processes ahead of flight hardware processing and implement procedural improvements to ensure operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with engineering to identify and resolve hardware non‑conformances.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or STEM discipline or 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • 1+ year of experience in manufacturing design, build, integration, or test.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing, building, integrating, and testing complex multi‑disciplinary systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft integration, composite structure design or testing, gas/ fluid test operations, data acquisition, and field measurements.
  • Strong technical intuition, critical thinking, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Documentation and configuration management experience.
  • Experience writing test plans, procedures, and providing go/no‑go judgment and rationale.

    Experience with CAD software and basic analysis programs.
  • Professional experience testing and operating around hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases/fluids, etc.).
  • Professional experience with large assembly moves (e.g., crane operations).
  • Clear and accurate communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, autonomous, demanding environment.
Additional Requirements
  • Travel to launch sites or customer facilities (both international and domestic) up to 40% annually.
  • Flexible travel schedule due to mission‑driven operations.
  • Pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
  • Comfortable standing, stooping, bending, and operating in tight spaces.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay range (hourly):

  • Integration & Test Specialist/Level 1: $30.00 – $38.00/hour
  • Integration & Test Specialist/Level 2: $34.00 – $43.00/hour
  • Integration & Test Specialist/Level 3: $38.00 – $48.00/hour

Base salary is one component of a total rewards package including long‑term incentives (stock, options), discretionary bonuses, stock purchase plan, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, and additional discounts and perks. Employees accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year.
