PROCESS TECHNICIAN, PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING (STARLINK) - NIGHT SHIFT
Working directly alongside the materials engineering group, this position will primarily support manufacturing and development of Space
X’s Starlink product components with a strong team of mechanical and process engineers. The goal of the team is to develop new manufacturing methods and qualify processes for production. As a plastic injection molding technician, you will maintain daily production uptime of fully automated injection molding machines, including all post‑mold operations, and document process settings through setup sheets and process books.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing analyses, developing work instructions, training others, operating machines, and meeting goals for production, quality, inventory, and personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, commission, and validate intelligent equipment to support injection molding applications.
- Participate in process development through parameter optimization, DOE experiments, and trials that lead to a robust process.
- Oversee operator instructions, critical parameters, checklists, and training materials for all molding operations; update service manuals, BOMs, drawings, wiring schematics, and tooling for production optimization.
- Work closely with product design engineering teams to define requirements.
- Diagnose equipment failures, collect data to identify root causes, and develop sustainable solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- 1+ years plastic injection molding experience in a production environment.
PREFERRED
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years plastic injection molding experience in a production environment.
- 3+ years experience with highly automated injection molding cells.
- 3+ years molding experience with Engel brand machines.
- Experience with multi‑shot molding, automated color blending, and central material drying systems.
- Independent troubleshooting of advanced electrical circuits, electronic systems, motors, starters, and electrically operated equipment. Successful repairs and modifications.
- Electrical wiring experience and knowledge of PLCs, sensors, and related components.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting using scientific, Paulson, or RJG processes.
- Ability to interpret geometrical tolerances on part drawings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of robotics and auxiliary equipment used with plastics injection molding machines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Office, and Word.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work from 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
- Standing/walking for long periods of time.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines.
