Job Description & How to Apply Below
A day in the life — Hawthorne, CA You start your shift by walking the facility, checking temperatures, airflow, and system status. A vibration alert on a rooftop unit prompts a quick inspection; you isolate the issue, swap a worn component, and document the repair. Next, you pivot to the O&M site to review APM Central Control consoles, run a diagnostic on a wayside subsystem, and prepare for a scheduled preventive maintenance window.
Midday, a service request comes in—an office zone is running warm—followed by a training block to maintain your certifications. By the end of the day, your logs are complete, the environment is comfortable, and the system is ready for tomorrow.
- Carry out routine maintenance and repair on heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment across the facility.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues to keep HVAC systems running at peak efficiency.
- Respond quickly to facility service requests and emergencies; support facility-wide maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintain thorough, accurate records of all HVAC and facility work performed.
- Stay current on industry practices, safety protocols, and emerging HVAC technologies.
- Partner with facility staff to uphold a safe, comfortable, and efficient workplace.
- Operate and maintain the APM system and related subsystems at the O&M site.
- Troubleshoot faults, determine root causes, and initiate the appropriate repair procedures.
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on vehicle and wayside systems, subsystems, and components.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and repair Central Control computer consoles, wayside systems, and assigned vehicle components.
- Inspect vehicles and associated equipment to detect failures or improper operation.
- Operate trains, doors, guideway switches, and power distribution systems in manual mode when required.
- Conduct electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic inspections per established procedures or instructions.
- Repair or replace defective parts and components using manuals, drawings, specifications, and verbal direction.
- Support recovery of malfunctioning vehicles and restore system operations during failures.
- Assist passengers and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Execute comprehensive preventive maintenance on vehicles, systems, and subsystems.
- Achieve and maintain all required functional certifications.
- Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC technical certification preferred.
- Hands-on experience as an HVAC technician or comparable role.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communicator and collaborative team player.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
