X is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Compressed Air Technician (Facilities) role is part of the critical infrastructure team in Hawthorne, CA.
- Collaborate with engineers and customers to maintain HVAC and mechanical systems, ensuring zero unplanned interruptions.
- Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment (air handlers, chilled water, condenser pumps, cooling towers, valves, filters, etc.).
- Perform ductwork modifications, brazing, soldering, evacuation and charging of refrigerants and water piping.
- Assemble, install, repair and maintain pipe and drainage systems per plumbing codes.
- Hands‑on shop work and on‑site disassembly, inspection, testing of pumps and mechanical equipment.
- Read and interpret schematics for assembly and repair.
- Perform safety inspections, recommend maintenance opportunities.
- Fabricate mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
- Present equipment maintenance status reports to internal and external customers.
- Operate forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack, boom lift, work truck and overhead crane.
- Open and resolve electronic work tickets on Space
X systems. - Take on additional responsibilities as needed and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
- Follow all applicable building codes, regulations and laws.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of professional experience with HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical or electrical systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, rotating machinery and mechanical fasteners.
- Technical certification or journeyman/master in HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing or Electrical Systems.
- Knowledge of high‑pressure gas, flammable gas and refrigeration gases.
- Experience maintaining HEPA filters and standard AHU filtration systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot systems down to component level.
- Familiarity with commercial building codes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and technical software.
- Self‑starter with a positive attitude, punctuality and flexibility.
- First shift 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM PT; overtime, weekends and holidays possible.
- Strong attendance; adhere to schedule.
- Physical requirements:
lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching and carrying. - Work at elevated heights up to 150 ft, ladder use.
- Valid CA driver’s license.
Pay range:
Level 1: $23.00 – $32.50/hour
Level 2: $31.00 – $43.00/hour
Level 3: $41.00 – $51.00/hour
Base salary is one part of the total rewards package, with stock options, long‑term cash awards, 401(k), medical, vision, dental, disability, life insurance, paid parental leave, and paid vacation.
