Overview

As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and test key aspects of an in-house solution for analysis, simulation, and prototyping of software in support of Space

X flight systems. You will have full ownership of new features in a scalable, high-performance web application, contribute to the core simulation and emulation infrastructure, and collaborate on models of fluids, electronics, and multi-body physics systems. This is a high-impact role where you will work across engineering groups to build a high-throughput distributed system to develop and demonstrate cutting-edge software and hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop full-stack solutions to manage analysis, prototypes, and vehicles leveraging simulation software, emulators, and flight software
• Develop prototypes to prove key design concepts and quantify technical constraints
• Develop high-fidelity simulation and emulation software for all vehicles while maintaining high standards of excellence
• Improve reliability and performance of simulation software
• Collaborate with users to develop new features and improve user experience

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline and 1+ years of software development experience; or 3+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree
• 1+ years of professional experience in full-stack development of production web applications
• Experience with JavaScript libraries such as React and Redux
• Professional experience developing Python applications

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Professional programming experience in modern C++ (C++14 and above)
• Experience with object-oriented languages such as Java, Python, and C#
• Strong software design and development skills
• Experience with highly available concurrent systems
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs
• Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively
• Experience with containerized solutions such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Professional experience with Linux/Unix systems and tools
• Experience with high-performance computing systems
• Experience with database systems such as Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle
• Experience working on a large (>100,000 lines) software project
• Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, and test automation
• Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance, or ability/willingness to obtain one

Additional Requirements

• Active clearance may allow work on sensitive Space
  
  X missions; subject to pre-employment drug and random drug/alcohol testing
• Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed

Compensation And Benefits

Pay range:

• Software Engineer/Level I: $ - $ per year
• Software Engineer/Level II: $ - $ per year

Your actual level and base salary are determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience. Those with an active clearance may receive a 10% differential, up to an additional $15,000 annually, once briefed into a classified program.

Base salary is part of Space

X total rewards package, which may include long-term incentives, stock, discretionary bonuses, and stock purchase plan. Also included are medical, vision, and dental coverage; 401(k); disability and life insurance; paid parental leave; and other benefits. You may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and 10+ paid holidays per year. Exempt employees receive 5 days of paid sick leave per year, with accrual per company policy.
