The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) offers a salary range of $77,422.00 to $ per year (salary under review). Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and are encouraged to apply from across the country.
In the event that this process is successful the CNSC may use the outcomes to staff future positions with similar qualifications at various CNSC locations.
Applicants should be aware that within a flexible work model, CNSC employees are currently expected to work in‑person for at least 25% of their normal schedule, depending on operational requirements.

The Environmental Review Division (ERD) is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the CNSC’s environmental review (ER) Program. As an ER officer you will:
- Manage and/or participate in federal and harmonized environmental or impact assessment processes for assigned projects
- Conduct technical reviews of assigned projects
- Participate in meetings with proponents, environmental groups, other interest groups, government levels, Indigenous communities, and members of the public on issues related to environmental assessment (EA) and impact assessment (IA)
- Assist in preparing materials for public Commission hearings and meetings, including EA reports, Commission Member documents, briefing materials, and presentations to inform Commission decisions
- Help establish and maintain the corporate program for meeting the obligations of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA), Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012), Environmental Protection Reviews under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA), and other ER processes
- Organize public outreach and Indigenous engagement sessions, such as town halls, meetings, and information sessions
- Collaborate with federal, provincial, and municipal governments on environmental matters and memoranda of understanding
- Contribute to annual reports to Parliament and the Commission
Education:
- University degree in environmental sciences, management, or a related discipline (e.g., geography, biology, environmental engineering, environmental policy), or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience
Language Requirements:

Experience – REG 5:
- Participating in environmental reviews and impact assessment processes
- Supporting the preparation of clear and concise written and oral briefing materials, reports, and presentations
- Participating in meetings with stakeholders, including proponents, environmental groups, government levels, Indigenous communities, and the public
- Participating or supporting public outreach and Indigenous engagement
- Participating in special projects in support of the Directorate’s mandate, roles, and responsibilities
Experience – REG 6:
- Managing and/or participating in environmental reviews and impact assessment processes
- Leading and/or supporting the preparation of clear and concise written and oral briefing materials, reports, and presentations
- Participating in multidisciplinary project teams
- Collaborating with stakeholders across governments and Indigenous communities
- Conducting public outreach and Indigenous engagement
- Leading or participating in special projects in support of the Directorate’s mandate, roles, and responsibilities
Knowledge of:
- Canadian legislation, policies, standards, and guidelines applicable to impact and environmental assessment as well as environmental protection (including NSCA, IAA, CEAA 2012, Species at Risk Act, Fisheries Act, and provincial/territorial legislation)
- Impact and environmental assessment methodologies and techniques
- Principles and practices for consultation with Indigenous Peoples
- Subject matter related to environmental reviews, including environmental protection and radiation protection for CNSC‑regulated facilities and activities
