Wage is $26.00 per hour plus an additional 12.4% in lieu.
The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary exempt position of "Aquatic Team Lead".
In addition to carrying out all the duties of a Lifeguard/Instructor the Aquatic Team Lead is responsible for providing instruction, managing, and directing Lifeguards/Instructors during tasks and training sessions. This role also includes overseeing/Instructing Swim for Life lessons. Additionally, ensuring the safety of all patrons, performing maintenance and janitorial tasks within and around the pool area. The Team Lead/Instructor takes on responsibilities in the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor, working a variety of shifts, including days, mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and may include split shifts.
Required:- Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification
- Current National Lifeguard (Pool Option)
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance
- Current Aquafit Certification or BCRPA Fitness Instructor recommended
- Current Lifesaving Instructor certification recommended
- Pool Operators 1
- Minimum 3 years lifeguarding/instructing experience
- Staff supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of pool programming, pool chemistry and pool mechanics
- Knowledge of Health Act, WHMIS and WCB regulations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict- resolution, and problem-solving skills
- Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and recreational benefits
- Ability to train and mentor other lifeguards/instructors
- Ability to prepare lesson plans, instruct and evaluate participants in a group setting.
- Ability to accurately count money and reconcile cash totals
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and work effectively and efficiently with other staff
- Ability to work days, mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts
- Physical ability to perform rescues of pool patrons and all lifeguards related duties safely and proficiently, in accordance with NL standards
- Physical ability to apply chemicals, set up deck equipment, etc.
Wage is $26.00 per hour plus an additional 12.4% in lieu. These positions are available May 11 until August 31, 2026. Ability to work days, mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
