Overview
The Senior Pool Manager is a paid, part‑time/temporary position within the City of Ontario’s Recreation & Community Services Department. Reporting to a Recreation & Community Services Coordinator, the incumbent supervises aquatic activities at Ontario’s five swimming pool sites, including high school and community pools, and is responsible for managing staff, ensuring safety, and coordinating with school district personnel. The role requires independent judgment in emergency situations and strong organizational and time‑management skills.
EssentialFunctions
- Supervise aquatic activities for the recreation program, including swim lessons, recreational swim, swim teams, and related programs.
- Direct staff activities, including employee selection, work assignment, performance evaluation, development, and complaint resolution.
- Perform lifeguarding duties and class instruction.
- Handle public and community group inquiries, requests, and complaints, providing appropriate customer service and recommendations.
- Plan, direct, and monitor an ongoing aquatics safety program.
- Coordinate with school district personnel to manage day‑to‑day facility use.
- Inspect and monitor facilities and equipment for safety, maintenance, and cleanliness, ensuring compliance with policies and protocols.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Assist the aquatics supervisor in planning and supervising the aquatics program.
- Assist in staff training and ensure attendance and participation in required training.
- Promote aquatic activities and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education: High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
- Experience: One season as a Pool Manager or equivalent.
- Desirable:
- Previous supervisory experience in a recreation setting.
- Three years of part‑time aquatics experience.
- College coursework in recreation or a related field.
- Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.
- Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent).
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
- Ability to work varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical demands: stamina for moderate to heavy lifting and prolonged periods in the pool.
- Environmental demands: work outdoors in wet, slippery conditions and exposure to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals. l
- All applicants must pass a fingerprint review, pre‑employment physical examination, and tuberculosis (TB) test.
