The Hays Recreation Commission (HRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Pro Shop Manager at The Fort Municipal Golf Course in Hays, Kansas.
The Fort is an 18-hole municipal golf course with irrigated fairways averaging more than 25,000 rounds of golf annually. Golf course maintenance is performed by City of Hays employees under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, who reports to the City of Hays Director of Parks.
The Pro Shop Manager will be a full-time employee of the Hays Recreation Commission and will report directly to the HRC Executive Director. This position is responsible for the overall management and daily operation of The Fort Pro Shop and will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, City of Hays staff, and Hays Recreation Commission.

- Experience supervising, training, and scheduling employees.
- Experience with cash handling, point-of-sale systems, financial accountability, or similar business operations.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities in a busy customer-service environment.
- Experience promoting special events, leagues, tournaments, programs, or similar activities.
- Knowledge or experience related to retail sales, inventory, merchandising, marketing, or budgeting is beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with HRC staff, City of Hays staff, golfers, members, community partners, and the general public.
- Golf industry, golf course, or Pro Shop experience is preferred and will be highly valued.
The Pro Shop Manager will oversee all aspects of Pro Shop operations, including customer service, food and beverage sales, clothing and apparel sales, green fees, membership fees, tee times, cart rentals, leagues, tournaments, junior golf programs, lessons, and Golf Course Marshals.
- Provide overall management and leadership of The Fort Pro Shop and its daily operations.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate HRC-employed part-time Pro Shop staff in accordance with Hays Recreation Commission policies and procedures.
- Select, schedule, train, and manage Golf Course Marshals.
- Provide excellent customer service to golfers, members, visitors, and the general public.
- Develop, organize, promote, and oversee golf leagues and tournaments.
- Develop and promote junior golf opportunities.
- Develop strategies to increase golf course membership and participation.
- Promote membership retention and positive relationships with existing members.
- Develop and implement marketing and promotional efforts for The Fort.
- Manage Pro Shop merchandise, apparel, food and beverage sales, and other retail operations.
- Collect and properly account for green fees, membership fees, cart rentals, merchandise sales, and other Pro Shop revenue.
- Maintain accurate financial records and provide a full accounting of fees collected at The Fort.
- Deliver required financial reports and associated fees to the City of Hays Finance and City Clerk's Office as required by agreement.
- Operate and oversee the foreUP Point-of-Sale system and online tee-time system.
- Provide annual capital budget information and recommendations to the HRC Executive Director regarding Pro Shop needs.
- Fully understand, administer, and communicate golf course policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the Golf Course Superintendent, City of Hays Director of Parks, other City staff, and Hays Recreation Commission staff.
- Identify and implement innovative ideas, programs, services, and operational improvements that help lead The Fort into the future.
- Perform other duties related to the successful operation of The Fort Pro Shop as assigned.

Final compensation will be determined based upon qualifications, experience, and the compensation structure established by the Hays Recreation Commission.
