Salary & BenefitsSalary Range: $5,540.00 to $7,893.00 per month. The starting salary will be in the range $5,540.00 to $5,733.00 per month depending on qualifications and experience. This position may also be eligible to participate in a hybrid telecommute program subject to management approval.

About the PositionThis is a temporary, grant‑funded position funded by the TRIO division of the U.S. Department of Education. The role will run from January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment for up to three years. Project Veterans Thrive is a five‑year grant program that provides academic support and counseling services to approximately 120 veteran and non‑military students and their dependents.
ResponsibilitiesDirect Services to Students
- Provide academic advising, including course selection and long‑term educational planning.
- Offer advice on withdrawals, recovery from academic probation, and avoidance of academic disqualification.
- Consider financial aid status, Department of Rehabilitation participation, and individual learning preferences when advising course load.
- Monitor academic progress and identify barriers such as academic holds or financial holds.
- Attend university‑wide meetings that support academic advising.
- Collaborate with the General Education Office, AACE Office, and the Department of Rehabilitation.
- Support students applying for graduate school.
- Provide educational and emotional support, focusing on self‑appraisal, growth mindset, locus of control, and positive self‑concept.
- Deliver workshops and trainings on wellness topics and support team‑focused culture.
- Notify the Veteran Student Services Director of students at risk of self‑harm and submit CARE reports as required.
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to create individualized support plans.
- Identify students at risk of not persisting using CSUEB’s early alert system.
- Coordinate with other departments and agencies to provide additional resources.
- Assist students in completing FAFSA, CSUEB financial aid verification, and scholarship applications.
- Help with financial aid appeals.
- Maintain relationships with the Financial Aid Office and understand financial aid processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes in the program software (Blumen).
- Collaborate with campus departments to educate the community about the program.
- Recruit, interview, and select new students each summer.
- Assist with tutoring service coordination and subject‑specific tutoring when needed.
- Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations and maintain accurate records.
- Attend TRIO trainings to stay current with best practices.
- Approximately three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
- One year in a related program area preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
