Job Description

The Lead Test Engineer is responsible for operating and supporting dynamometer test cells for propulsion and driveline systems from initial setup to test report completion. This includes working with dynamometer control software to integrate customer test requests, performing test equipment calibrations, executing troubleshooting efforts on test cell equipment, and assisting the test engineers to meet deadlines. The main objective is to oversee and guide the engineering team to ensure the successful delivery of projects.

This role requires the ability to successfully manage tasks and assignments in multiple areas. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities are critical to the success of this individual.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Integrating customer test requests into our in-house developed dynamometer control software. This includes configuring channel setups and writing automated test scripts, among many other items.
  • Translating documents and conversations from customers to a fully functional dynamometer test.
  • Guide test engineers toward best practices for executing robust test setups.
  • Troubleshooting of testing systems and customer product issues.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to create concepts and deliverables used to efficiently complete customer test requests and internal projects.
  • Setting up testing equipment including analog sensors, electrical instruments, cooling systems, power analyzers, delta analyzers, CAN bus gateways, Ether

    CAT chain manipulation and other customer driven requirements.
  • Electrical wiring of internal and external sensors to our data acquisition system and our industrial drive systems.
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and improve signal noise as it pertains to testing setups and data output quality.
  • Calibrating testing equipment such as torque meters, pressure sensors, and flow meters.
  • Support the commissioning process of new tests to help the team meet both internal and external deadlines.
  • Provide directions for the test engineering team as needed to help meet deadlines.
  • Assists in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Additional Information

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably mechanical or electrical), or related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience leading teams is preferred.
  • Practical dynamometer testing experience and involvement with projects.
  • Working understanding of LabVIEW and how to use it with existing projects preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of automotive propulsion and driveline systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial drive systems and electrical power flow.
  • Fluency in the English language is required.
  • Strong problem solving, strategic thinking and analytical skills required.
