DescriptionAs a research and development technician, you will focus on producing battery materials and building cells that prioritize high energy density, safety, and manufacturability. Your day will involve creating material supplies, assembling cells, and characterizing them to support team goals. A background in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related fields is preferred. This role offers hands-on, fast-paced work in a growing team passionate about transforming energy storage.
Responsibilities- Produce battery components (electrolyte, electrodes, cell parts) with training provided
- Characterize cell materials using techniques like SEM, XRD, TGA, Raman
- Assist in casting anodes and conducting quality checks
- Assemble solid-state cells and prepare them for testing
- Discuss characterization results to understand material impacts on performance
- Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness
- Perform equipment maintenance and calibrations
- Accurately document materials and processes
- Adapt to evolving processes while maintaining detailed records
- Experience in detail-oriented environments like labs or kitchens
- Strong documentation skills and adherence to SOPs
- Ability to work in dry rooms and glove boxes for extended periods
- Comfort standing or sitting for long periods and performing repetitive tasks
- Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity
- Proficiency with Excel and Word
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Clear communication skills
- Commitment to lab and work safety policies
- Ability to read and understand SDS
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
- Experience with glove boxes/dry rooms and chemical manufacturing
- Familiarity with analytical tools like SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR
- Over 1 year of experience in fast-paced lab or manufacturing environments
- Experience handling hazardous materials in a lab setting
- Basic chemistry knowledge, including acids, bases, pH, and associated risks
- Experience with powder processing techniques
