Job Summary(LEAD CLS) FULL‑TIME (40 hrs per week) AM Shift. Approximate Pay Range: $56.74 - $69.78.
Under minimal supervision, the CLS Laboratory Section Lead/Supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of their area of responsibility within the laboratory. The position assists the laboratory manager and the general supervisor, if any, in the effective operation of the laboratory by coordinating all activities in the area of responsibility. Works closely with other CLS Laboratory Section Lead/Supervisors and the laboratory manager to determine effective resource allocation.
The CLS Laboratory Section Lead/Supervisor may be designated to serve as the Technical Supervisor or General Supervisor under CLIA, provided that designation will not result in the employee becoming a supervisor under the National Labor Relations Act.
- Function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, serology/immunology.
- Perform high‑complexity testing.
- Follow established procedures to perform routine and STAT clinical laboratory testing.
- Notify patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values according to policy.
- Follow established quality control procedures for all tests, including initiation of remedial action in out‑of‑control situations.
- Keep abreast of reference and critical values for neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients so that the appropriate physician notification takes place in the event of the recovery of critical values related to specific age groups.
- Perform all Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing.
- Consult with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow standard precautions at all times.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Current valid CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
- Sexual Harassment/ Bullying Prevention Certification (1 month from hire).
- Minimum four years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist with focus in the area of Microbiology, Chemistry/POCT/UA, Transfusion Services/Hematology or Phlebotomy/Reference, preferred.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or related field, preferred.
