Position Overview

HGL seeks a mid‑level Environmental Scientist to support environmental compliance and field operations for the St. Louis FUSRAP project. The role reports to the Project Compliance Manager and ensures adherence to environmental regulations during remediation and construction activities. Responsibilities include collecting field data, environmental sampling (water), performing daily data entry and analysis, and preparing technical reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and perform collection, preservation, packaging, and transportation of environmental samples.
  • Create and perform QA of chain of custody documentation.
  • Execute various data management tasks using SQL databases (EQuIS and FEDMS).
  • Maintain daily quality‑control reports and logbooks.
  • Generate reports for data end users.
  • Maintain archive sample inventory and storage area.
  • Document NPDES and MSD Permit sampling events.
  • Perform compliance inspections of work sites.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of directly related work experience.
  • Experience performing and overseeing environmental field activities, authoring technical reports, and reviewing/interpreting environmental data.
  • Ability to research and resolve regulatory compliance issues.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other MS Office applications.
  • Proficiency in using SQL databases.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification required upon employment or the willingness to obtain it.
  • Physical capability to collect samples and lift/carry up to 30 pounds of equipment on typical terrain.
  • Local travel within the St. Louis area and surrounding vicinity required.
  • Availability for occasional holiday and weekend coverage as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn and expand responsibilities.
  • History of responsibility, initiative, motivation, and creativity.
  • Knowledge of CERCLA process and associated work phases.
  • CHMM certification.

Work Hours & Requirements

Project hours: 6:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday–Thursday. Alternate or extended shift scheduling may be required short‑term.

A pre‑hire drug test and physical examination are required.

The salary range for this position is $63,600–$95,400. Final salary may be impacted by factors such as contractual requirements, geographic location, education, training, experience, and skills.
