Relief Youth Care Worker – Embrace Alabama Kids

Join us to provide nurturing, direct care and supervision of residents in a group home environment. The Youth Care Worker works closely with the Group Home Manager to support residents in achieving goals outlined in their Case or Treatment Plan and to administer daily activities.

• Works collaboratively with other staff to provide supervision of residents.
• Maintains confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations.
• Uses residents’ social history to better understand their emotional difficulties and needs.
• Provides transportation to school, appointments, church, recreational activities, etc.
• Plans menus and ensures nutritionally balanced meals are prepared.
• Administers medication to residents at the appropriate time.
• Abides by UMCH Behavior Management Policy and follows Love and Logic practices.
• Provides basic living skills in accordance with Alabama Medicaid Manual Chapter 105 and resident treatment plans.
• Is sensitive to residents’ cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Provides praise and positive feedback to build residents’ self‑confidence and esteem.
• Administers appropriate and consistent consequences to residents.
• Maintains and coordinates daily schedules, including meals, chores, school, homework, and extracurricular activities.
• Completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Follows UMCH policy regarding safety practices, procedures and universal precautions.
• Implements fire and tornado drills.
• Adheres to UMCH Policy, Procedure and Minimum Standards.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality as situations dictate.
• Teams with staff and program manager to handle stressful and emergency situations calmly and professionally.
• Maintains group home in a clean, safe and comfortable manner.

• High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• Six (6) months of paid experience in a residential environment with youth and/or families.
• Minimum age 21 years.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Physical ability to participate in residents’ activities.
• Proficiency in computer use, including basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Valid driver’s license from state of residence.
• Proof of automobile liability insurance and driving record sufficient for agency coverage.
• Satisfactory background check including employment, personal references, criminal history, driving background, Child Abuse & Neglect Registry, and pre‑employment physical examination including TB skin test and drug screen.

Vision:
Ability to drive, read reports, observe conditions, view computer screen.

Cognitive:
Independent, logical thinking and problem‑solving.

Hearing:
Adequate hearing to communicate with coworkers, families and public.

Standing/Walking/Mobility:
Stand to open files, operate office machines, drive, get in/out of private homes, work area; some standing for prolonged periods; normal coordination.

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling:
Stoop and kneel as needed to file, retrieve documents, assist families, perform CPR and first aid.

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing:
Lift and carry case files, laptop up to 20 pounds.

Manual Dexterity:
Write, type, use telephone system, file, drive.
