This position reports directly to the Superintendent, Dry Yeast Department, and may also receive work direction from the Drying Department Manager. It is a 10‑hour shift job with some overtime required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Operate the packaging equipment (conveyors, dry yeast filler, case sealers, vacuum sealers, inkjet printer, labeler, vacuum lifter) in accordance with SOPs and training.
- Ensure each box is packaged with the proper packaging material, free of foreign material, within the weight range, clean, presentable, and stacked properly on the pallet.
- Adjust weights on the touchscreen interface if box weights go out of range.
- Assist in loading products onto trucks when necessary.
- Ensure packaging equipment functions effectively at all times.
- Take product and in‑process samples in a prescribed manner and frequency.
- Perform basic laboratory analysis in accordance with SOPs and the plan of control.
- Follow proper procedures in packaging processes and complete them as scheduled.
- Follow established yeast packaging procedures, and make equipment adjustments manually or through a central processing computer.
- Notify Superintendent of equipment failures and major packaging problems or variations.
- Follow production schedule and notify Superintendent of schedule drift.
- Participate in equipment cleaning operations per the cleaning plan.
- Follow established cleaning procedures.
- Follow plant maintenance procedures as needed.
- Monitor critical control points as per the plan of control.
- Learn and comply with all established safety, food safety rules of the plant, and general company policies.
- Read and understand material safety data for chemicals used in packaging and drying.
- Maintain control sheets for packaging parameters, procedures, equipment, simple calculations, and computer controls.
- Enter information on packaging control sheet for the operation.
- Keep the packaging room and control room clean.
- Verify accuracy of all information.
- Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Dry Yeast Department Manager, and other employees of the Dry Yeast Department.
- Coordinate daily with General Service for packaging material supply.
- Notify Maintenance of equipment problems that cannot be solved independently via written work order requests.
- Coordinate daily with Maintenance for equipment PMs, repairs, and availability.
- Coordinate with Laboratory when tests are needed; deliver samples for testing.
- Use a computer for E‑mail, Excel spreadsheets, and procedures in the Dry Yeast Department.
- Input Oracle information as required.
- Maintain daily inventory for packaging production and cleaning needs with General Services.
- Participate in the Dry Yeast Department continuous improvement team.
- Special projects as assigned.

- Paperwork requires attention to detail. Basic computer skills, including Excel and the Windows environment, are required.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations, percentages, and ratios.

High school diploma required. 3 years of experience in a food grade production facility preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence if needed. Ability to speak effectively before employees or auditors.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCPR/First Aid certification. Forklift certification.
Physical DemandsStand; walk; use hands; reach; climb; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit and talk or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentWet and humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes; airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; outside weather; risk of electrical shock. Noise level usually loud. Ability to perform duties for 12‑hour shifts and on either day or night shift is required.
