Operations Engineer, Operations Manager
Summary
Position reports directly to the General Services Superintendent and assists in all support operations for the yeast manufacturing and drying plants, as well as wastewater treatment. May receive occasional direction from other Plant Management. The role has direct responsibility for general services/customer service operators and farm/wastewater treatment operators. It requires the ability to perform every operator job in the department and cover for operator absences on an emergency basis.
As a supervisor, it covers for the General Services Superintendent as needed. The role demands proactive, professional communication with contractors, farmers, truck drivers, and corporate staff, supporting all Dothan Plant operations to ensure a safe, organized, quality workplace and a world‑class safety culture. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems such as SAP/Oracle is essential.
- Work with corporate customer service to oversee truck loading schedule and report issues or deviations that may impact customers.
- Supervise all aspects of the wastewater treatment farm including irrigation, operator schedules and tasks, farmer and contractor management, and state regulations/sampling requirements.
- Collaborate with plant consultants and outside labs on wastewater treatment and testing.
- Accurately record all data related to farm operations in spreadsheets or other software for audit needs.
- Supervise all aspects of the General Services department, including operator schedules and tasks, cleaning schedules, shipments, contractor management, and plant inventory.
- Accurately record and document all necessary paperwork for audit needs.
- Update GS/Farm VPM board, 5S and Lean documentation daily.
- Issue and monitor completion of maintenance Mapcon work orders daily.
- Check cleaning schedules and supervise proper task completion.
- Weekly review of eye wash/safety shower inspection forms and conduct periodic audits.
- Weekly inspection of cream load‑out magnet trap inspection log.
- Ensure semi‑annual stormwater samples are taken per permit requirements and sent to outside labs for analysis.
- Scan and retain files for all ingredient and raw material ordering and finished product shipping from dryer.
- Assist with various support duties as needed for plant operation.
- Other duties as assigned by the GS Superintendent or Plant Manager.
- Supervise a total of 5 hourly employees (2 Farm Operators & 3 GS Operators). Indirectly responsible for other plant teams to ensure task completion and adherence to safety culture.
- Responsible for overall direction, coordination, scheduling, and evaluation of these individuals.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies.
- Interview and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Provide active, hands‑on supervision to problem‑solve and resolve day‑to‑day issues.
- Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel.
- Customer service oriented and skilled in positively resolving customer and public concerns.
- Effectively find resolutions in various problems that arise in plant operations.
- Communicate with outside vendors, contractors, and team members professionally and positively.
- Above‑average spreadsheet and word‑processing skills;
Windows OS and Microsoft Office required. - Resolve issues related to customer service, shipments, deliveries, and outside vendors.
- Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize to handle detailed information and multiple tasks.
- Knowledge or ability to learn ERP systems (Oracle/SAP) required for this position.
- Prioritize, organize, and delegate while ensuring completion of assignments.
- Paperwork and spreadsheets demand high attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills with proven decision‑making ability.
- Preferred experience in leadership in a factory/manufacturing setting; 5S and Lean Principles preferred.
- Effective problem‑solving skills and ability to communicate professionally across departments.
