This job code applies to the Athletic Trainer, in the community, youth or high school setting, with primary assignment to support the medical needs of the assigned partner; provide medical coverage, on field and in the training room for injured athletes during practices and events. Such duties may also extend to assist other local high schools, community sporting events, and regional sporting camps/activities.

This position will have variable working hours, unpredictability of schedules, adjusting to match the needs of the partner and late nights.

• Carries out rehabilitation program after athlete or patient has been evaluated and treatment plan has been established collaborating closely with other medical team providers including PT, and Physician.
• Assesses and administers first-aide to injured athletes during practices and sporting events, making appropriate physician referral when needed.
• Ensures the operation of the Athletic Training room, maintaining appropriate supplies, maximal coverage, and a clean, safe, and professional environment.
• Communicates effectively with coaches, school administration, parents, athletes, patients, physicians, therapists and other sports medicine team members.
• Maintains accurate records of all evaluations, referrals, and treatments administered to patients or athletes.
• Provides education and training on injury prevention, advocates for overall health literacy, nutrition, and mental health wellbeing.
• Develops strong relationships with key stakeholders at the assigned school or clinic, including but not limited to physicians, athletic directors, school administration and faculty, coaching staff, boosters, and parents.
• Ensures that proper return‑to‑play criteria are met before allowing participation of athlete or patient, prioritizing the best interest of the athlete or patient.
• Organizes and presents in‑services, lectures, coach conferences, seasonal physicals, sports camps, training, and educational opportunities as appropriate.

• Current Athletic Training Licensure for the states in which you work.
• Credentialed as an Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Two years’ experience working in a school/community setting as an Athletic Trainer, preferred.

• Ongoing need to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication and quick, accurate listening, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex delicate equipment with precision. Includes frequent computer use and typing for documentation, accessing information, and medication preparation.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend, lift, and carry supplies. May involve items of varying weights, up to and including heavy loads.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment in crowded, busy rooms with equipment and power cords on the floor.
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
