If you love reading blueprints and have experience operating a CNC machine, this position will allow you to set up, check programs, and operate CNC turning or machining centers to perform complex machining operations that meet precise tolerance and finish requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Selects, positions, and aligns dies in machine ram and bed.
  • Understands program format, works from operational data, defines and codes tooling, fixturing, and machine arrangements.
  • Arranges, mounts, and secures tooling.
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, or locates, supports, and secures work pieces in the absence of fixturing.
  • Sets stops, calibrates fixturing to appropriate reference points.
  • Manually cycles machine through operation sequence to check fixture and work positions, tooling, clearance, speeds, feeds, etc.
  • Adjusts machine or console to correct deviations from program specifications and reports errors.
  • Recommends tooling applications and operational sequences to assist in developing practical programming for new and unusual machining requirements.
  • May set up for and instruct lower‑classification machine operators, diagnose operating difficulties, and make adjustments.
  • Works from detailed part drawings and specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequences, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of the unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Develops specifications from a general description and draws sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Sets up single‑spindle manual and automatic drill press and tapping machine for secondary operations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Manufacturing experience is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience operating a CNC machine.
  • Ability to understand work orders and follow instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow MEC safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs at a time. This position involves a lot of bending, twisting, and lifting.
