Summary

Responsible for efficiently fitting, tacking, welding, rolling, forming, and assembling metal components in accordance with Welding Tier 2.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures. Must be able to interpret all TIGG production drawings including weld symbols and joint configurations.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Work as a cross‑functional team member by checking layout and welding work of other team members to ensure accuracy.
  • Weld components using manual or semi‑automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical or horizontal).
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Proper use of forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling devices as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Immediately notify supervisor of malfunctioning or inoperable equipment.
  • Participate in meetings as required.
  • Individuals will exhibit positive and professional attitude in their work and will have a strong commitment to a safe and clean work area.
  • Be able to consistently meet the quality and fabrication times of our vessels, piping and other components.
  • Operate with moderate supervision and be able to move through multiple tasks on without being directed on what to do next.
  • Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra’s safety policies and procedures. This includes reporting all safety concerns, near‑misses, and incidents.
  • Adhere to the company processes as detailed in Newterra’s online systems.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training applicable to position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • ASW welding certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a welder preferably in a manufacturing or water utilities environment.
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program or basic weld testing (flat, vertical, machine amperage, feed, rod, or wire selection, submerge amperage with feed rate).
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, FCAW and SAW). Must pass internal testing as directed by Welding Supervisor.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  • Working knowledge in the fabrication of non‑code components within the build parameters to produce quality welds from both a cosmetic and structural standpoint.
