We are currently looking to fill the position of Service Technician based at our Hebron, OH Service Center. This is a non‑exempt, skilled position within the bargaining unit responsible for the distribution service area of the system. An employee in this position will be working alone in a given service area. Work is performed under the general direction of the service supervisor and is checked by observation and conformance to standard practices.

Nature

and Scope of Position (Essential Duties and Responsibilities)
  • Activate and deactivate gas service to members and consumers.
  • Inspect and pressure test piping to ensure compliance with National Fuel Gas Code and/or company requirements; inspect and test service lines for leakage.
  • Install, inspect, and change residential and commercial meters and, on occasion, assist with work at industrial pressure regulation and metering stations.
  • Respond to various types of service order requests such as required odor and carbon monoxide tests, turnoffs and collections.
  • Perform locates for service lines and/or main lines as needed.
  • Perform on‑call duty assignments including working after regular working hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and company‑observed holidays and respond quickly to all requests and emergency situations.
  • Become familiar with and complete all forms pertaining to maintenance of equipment and facilities such as service orders, material tickets, maintenance records, etc.
  • Perform related work as required and other such duties as may be assigned provided the work and duties coincide with employee’s qualifications.
Qualifications

  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    High school diploma or equivalent GED, a minimum of three years related experience in the natural gas industry; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certifications, Licenses and/or Training: Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License. This position provides the use of a company vehicle therefore an individual must maintain a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to deal with the general public in a pleasant and courteous manner at all times. Ability to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions. Ability to prepare and complete the necessary service orders, and other written documentation required for this position.
  • Other

    Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to operate line locators, combustible gas instruments, CO detectors, and effectively utili​ze various tools and equipment used in the distribution area of the utility system. Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to this type of work and must be familiar with the use of protective clothing and safety equipment. Accept responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity.

    Performs well under stress, when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations; or in situations in which working speed or sustained attention are critical aspects of the job.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • While performing this job, an employee would regularly walk, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, stoop, lift, use hand tools, operate other tools and power equipment and drive a company truck. Successful performance requires ability to maintain sufficient strength to lift heavy objects, and the ability to successfully work in adverse weather conditions.
  • An employee in this position must successfully complete pre‑employment drug and physical testing and is subject to random testing as outlined in the company’s Drug and Alcohol policy.
