Are you a Hydraulic Fitter or Mechanical Fitter who enjoys hands-on build work and wants to work on high-profile engineering projects? This is an opportunity to join a specialist hydraulic engineering business in Heckmondwike. They design and manufacture bespoke fluid power systems for demanding applications across renewable energy, defence, infrastructure and major stadium projects in the UK and worldwide.

Demand for their engineered hydraulic systems keeps growing, so they’re adding a Hydraulic Fitter to their workshop team. The role is mainly workshop-based. You’ll build and test complex hydraulic equipment from start to finish, with occasional visits to customer sites to support installation and commissioning.

The Role

* Assembling and testing hydraulic power units (HPUs), cylinders, manifolds, pipework and fittings

* Building associated mechanical assemblies, including fitting motors, gearboxes and bearings to drawings

* Carrying out hydraulic flushing, pressure testing and quality checks to technical and safety specifications

* Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and preparing systems for dispatch

* Fault-finding and root cause analysis on hydraulic and mechanical systems

* Recording build and test activity accurately for traceability and compliance

* Working closely with the engineering, production and project teams

* Occasionally attending customer sites to support installation, commissioning and servicing

What We’re Looking For

* A mechanical apprenticeship, a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

* Hands-on experience building, maintaining or commissioning hydraulic systems

* A good understanding of hydraulic principles and mechanical assembly techniques

* Confidence reading hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings and general arrangement (GA) drawings

* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

* Good awareness of safe working practices and health and safety

* A proactive, team-focused approach and the ability to work on your own

Candidates from industrial hydraulics, fluid power, HPU build, cylinder manufacture or mechanical fitting backgrounds are all encouraged to apply.

What’s On Offer

* A salary of up to £33,000, with some flexibility for the right candidate depending on experience

* An early finish every Friday at 2:30pm

* 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays

* A holiday purchase scheme to buy up to 5 extra days each year

* An employer pension scheme

* A Level 2 Paycare Cash Plan to claim back everyday healthcare costs

* Ongoing training, support with professional qualifications and real career progression

* Varied, high-profile projects in a business that’s growing
